OFW Returning Home
In 2019, while on a grant, I documented the lives of former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning to the Philippines after years of labor abroad. Many of these women had endured abuse and exploitation in countries like Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai — facing harsh working conditions, withheld wages, and physical or emotional mistreatment. Despite these hardships, they carried the hope of providing for their families, as remittances from OFWs remain a vital pillar of the Philippine economy. Their sacrifices sustain communities, yet their struggles are often overlooked. This project sheds light on their pain, resilience, and the complex realities of seeking a better future far from home.
